Improv and Abstraction in Antique Quilts

The NEQM welcomes award-winning quilt artist, instructor and collector, Marge Tucker, as guest curator in this stunning Genre Gallery exhibition. Tucker’s journey as a quiltmaker began more than 25 years ago, but her passion for collecting vintage and antique quilts came in 2006 when she “started to look for older quilts that were unique and made without using a known quilt block or not following the rules of a traditional quilt block.” The 24 extraordinary quilts Tucker has selected for this exhibition exemplify how works from the 19th century and early 20th century have inspired the abstract improvisational designs for which she has received international recognition.
